The Somali Prime Minister (Mr Abdi Rashid AU Sbermarke) announced in Parliament this morning that the Government had decided to break off diplomatic relations with Britain, because of Britain’s policy on the Northern Frontier District of Kenya. The announcement was greeted with prolonged cheers. The decision is subject to ratification by Parliament during the present emergency session. Nineteen Britons, including women and children, were evacuated by air from Berbers. Somalia, yesterday at the British Government’s request. Three Aden Airways aircraft were standing by to fly out other British families if necessary. The new move follows antiBritish demonstrations in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, on Friday.
