On the course proper, 40ft out, Turps (Rudd) and Lucano (Taylor) were going nicely at the end of half a mile in Slieec, the last three in 38isec.
Tilly Light (George) strode out boldly to beat Elrey (Mullan e) by two lengths at the end of a mile in Imin 40 3-ssec, the last three in 42sec. They had the pace on early. It was good work by Tilly Light, wMch could run well in the Rimu High-weight. Elrey resumes in the same race, but will almost certainly require an outing or two.
Doradeb (Taylor) took her time when galloping a mile and ran the full journey in Imin 52sec, the last three in 40 2-ssec. She ran a good race at Hawera in her last start and is to contest the President’s Handicap at Trentham. She was a winner on the course in January.
Akubra (George) which has been disappointing in his latest races, was most impressive when he galloped five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec, the last three in 37sec. This time has rarely been bettered on the plough. It was a brilliant effort.
