Gas Charge Denied

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, Mar. 10.

A United States military spokesman today denied charges by the Soviet Union and China that the United States was using poison gas in South Vietnam.

The spokesman said the charges probably referred to ‘herbicide’' used by the Vietnamese Air Force to km jungle foliage in the search for Communist guerrillas.

American military sources said the chemical was a weed killer commonly used in tha United States. It was sprayed by planes, mainly around fortified hamlets and along roads to deprive the guerillas of cover for ambush.
