Miss J. Clark, of the Spreydon club, is one of New Zealand’s leading women freestyle swimmers but, as a contemporary of the national champion, Miss S. A. Nicholson, her reputation suffers. It must have been of considerable satisfaction to her, therefore, to play a vital part in the winning of the 4 x 110yds medley title by Canterbury last week. She capped good work by Misses Nicholson, W. Dale and C. Hopper with a fast free-style leg.
One of the most impressive runs at the national senior athletic championships at Dunedin was the 48.8 sec 440yds run by A. J. Osborne (Wellington). Recently acclaimed as the first Nelson athlete to beat 50sec for the distance, this Nelson Rugby representative improved on his best time by o.Bsec. He was nominee for the South Island Rugby trials last winter. * C. L. Mitchell, former New Zealand Universities, Manawatu and King Country wing, will play for the Christchurch Club in the senior Rugby competition this year. Mitchell impressed as a fast and determined player when he played for Lincoln College in 1960 and 1961 and will be a good replacement for C. Devine who will not be playing cliro Rugby this season
