Work Begins On Power Scheme
(N Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Mar. 8. Work has begun on the first stages of the huge Manapouri power scheme — the pumping dry of the 750 ft deep exploration shaft driven for Comalco last year. Once the shaft is dry prospective tenderers for the scheme, which involves excavating a power house the size of the Dunedin Town Hall and driving a tail-race tunnel six and a half miles to the sea at Doubtful Sound will be able to make inspections.
