More new books were issued by British publishers in 1902 than ever before. The total of 25,079 titles consisted of 18,975 new books and 6104 reprints or new editions. The year saw a notable fall-ing-off in fiction, down by 253, and children’s books, down by 358. The largest increases were in educational books, up by 198, politics, up by 137, and natural history, up by ISO.
