GOLDEN SHEARS CHAMPIONSHIP
Intermediate Title To D. Newton
(N.Z. Press Association; MASTERTON. March 8. Twenty-four-year-old D. Newton, of Temata. won the 1963 Golden Shears intermediate championship in Masterton last night. Newton was awarded a total of 94 812 points, shearing his eight sheep in 14min 59.65ec —the fastest of the six finalists who competed before over 2000 spectators. The Carterton shearer, I. Hultenberg. was the fourth to switch off, but earned the highest points of the six for quality shearing—4s.437. He will receive a special prize of a new model shearing handpiece.

Kelly (Eltham), 93437; A. C. Taylor (Shannon), 92.625: B. Baker (Hawke’s Bay). 91272; R. A. Stuart (Te Awamutu), 88.967; W. G Billett (Feilding), 88.033; L. R. Signal! (Tokomaru), 87.842.
