TRAINING NEED
Young People In Industry
The following report from the Chief Inspector of Factories in Great Britain is equally applicable in New Zealand:— “The increasing number of young persons coming into industry present per-, haps the greatest challenge of all, since they must be trained in safe working practices from the beginning. Schools and technical colleges can play an important part but industry must bear the main responsibility.
“It should not be forgotten that industry has also the most to gain,. not only from preventing suffering and a tragic waste of skill, but also from the opportunity of doing the job of safety training properly when the worker is at his most impressionable stage. “The numbers leaving school will increase considerably over the next few years. This will entail a.
growing number of unskilled and untrained workers and only careful and skilfully planned training can ensure that the new entrant learns to work in a way that is safe for himself and his fellows.”
