GENERATOR FAULT

Problem At Meremere

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. March 6.

A bent shaft in the highpressure chamber of one of the six rotary generators in the Meremere power station has presented the Electricity Department with a transport problem.

The s}-ton generator will have to be shipped to Australia for repairs and will have to be back in service by the beginning of June when the power station reaches winter peak capacity. The Auckland district electrical engineer, Mr H. E. Evans said today that the department had considered having the generator flown by the RJLZ A.F, but no suitable aircraft was available. The department was now looking into the possibilities of sending the generator by sea. It would probably reach a definite decision tomorrow.

Only three generators are being used at the power station at the moment

An inquiry was being held into the cause of the generator’s breakdown, said Mr Evans, but he was quite satisfied that it had been no fault of the operators.
