Minister’s Praise (N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, March 4. “It is unfortunate the public viewed the efficiency of the fire brigade as something to be taken for granted,’’ said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leon Goto), when he opened the eightyfourth annual conference of the United Fire Brigades Association at Auckland, this morning.

Sir Leon Gotz Mid during his term of office he had been constantly impressed by the work of the fire service and had come to realise whet a tremendous amount lay behind it

Gold stars for 25 years of service were presented by the president of the association, Mr L. R. Osmond, to J. Burridge (Kmnara), E. J. Jury (Kaiapoi), E. V. King (Alexandra), H. R. Kirk (Greymouth), H G. McAllister (Kaiapoi), J. W. McNab (Sumner), G. O’Neill (Rangiora), V. Rayner (Westport), and L. Wilson (Auckland).
