Ewe Market About Steady At Sheffield

Ewes of all classes met a sound sale at about steady rates at the Sheffield ewe fair yesterday. Medium class younger ewes were in particularly good demand and older ewes were fully firm to possibly a shade dearer than at Oxford the previous day. Once more it was a case of vendors record? ing big advances on the prices that they were paid last year. For younger ewes the margin over last year's sale was as much as 80s in isolated instances and regularly’more than 20s.

A reflection of the favourable season for feed the offering at Sheffield has seldom looked better than it did yesterday with the older ewes being a uniformly good lot. Indicative of the strong demand still prevailing for ewes, sheep went to many parts of the province from Ashburton to Waikari and Motunau with a good many finding homes in the Darfleld, Aylesbury, West Melton and Courtenay area. The yarding totalled 12.MJ7 compared with 12,299 last year and included 3788 ewe and wether lambs (2790 last year), 1478 two-tooth ewes (2458), 7678 older ewes «M2l) and 23 wethers (130). Medium Two-tooths The feature of the two-tooth sale, which attracted a small entry of mainly fine wool sheep, was the good values paid for medium clase ewes.
