BARRIER TRIALS

Fonteroy gave Canadians a start and beat her impressively in a five-furlong barrier trial on the course at Riccarton yesterday. Fonteroy is a fast three-year-old in the Ahurlri Hack Handicap at the Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday. Jaykay led the others in behind Canadians. He was in a gap, but carried a big weight with E. B. Skelton up. Fonteroy was ridden by his race rider, G. W. Mein. Llanere shaded Natavia and the fast-flnishing St. Malo in a second run from the starting stalls. Llanere and St Malo are stablemates, both trained by P. H. Jones.

On Account, a fit hack in J. L. Barr’s team, easily won the third heat.
