Reply To Criticism Of Selection
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 5. The women's badminton team to represent New Zealand in the Über Cup left for India today. At a farewell ceremony. Mr B. Hacking, president ot the New Zealand Badminton Federation, replied to criticism ot the team selection and the federation's financial policy. He said the management committee had been criticised for spending money on the tour which would have been better spent on buildings, coaching, •nd the encouragement ot juniors. Then the federation was criticised because it was allegedly sending a weak team. “The administrators give as much consideration to halls, coaching, and juntotw aa to internattonal play,” said Mr Hocking. Tours coat a lot but halls cost more.
“I believe this to be a very good team. Certainly there are two or three more players who might have been in it had they been available, but it is still a good team," The team wiH play in India before competing in an Über Cup zone final match against Indonesia. The winner of this match will play the winner of the Canada-England match for the right to challenge the holder, the United States.
