THREE DAYS IN BUSH
Missing Man Safe
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Mar. 5. Mir Jan Maarten van der Leeden, missing in heavy bush since Saturday afternoon, walked into a police patrol at Kawerau this morning after he had succeeded on his fourth attempt to swim the swift-flowing Tarawera river. An unidentified man who had seen Mr van der Leeden walking down a road from the Tarawera Valley towards Kawerau about 7.20 am., telephoned the Kawerau police to tell them he had seen the Auckland prison escaper George Wilder. Sergeant E. Lines, Kawerau, “picked up” Mr van der Leeden outride the Kawerau maternity bospitaL The missing man, a married 49-year-old logging contractor and garage proprietor from Hannah's Bay. Rotorua, went into the bush in the Laks Rerewhakasitu area, 15 mfies south of Rotorua, early on Sutunday afternoon to look at some
togs. Mr van der Leeden said in Kawerau that be had nothing to eat, but had kept going on water atone.
