CARGO FOR CHINA
Vessel Loads At Lyttelton Cargo for Communist China being loaded aboard the British motor ship, Grosvenor Mariner, at Lyttelton, will be discharged at Shanghai. Commanded by Captain R. E. Shorthouse, of Belfast, the 7026-ton Grosvenor Mariner is owned by the Grosvenor Shipping Company, Ltd., of London, and operated by Mollers, Ltd., of London and Hong Kong. Paying her first visit to New Zealand, the Grosvenor Mariner has discharged a bulk potash cargo at Mount Maunganui and Whangarei. This cargo was loaded at Nakhodka, an expanding seaport of 190,000 inhabitants about 60 miles north of Vladivostok. It is believed that the potash came from the Urals and across Upper Siberia by rail. At Nakhodka, the 52 members of the Grosvenor Mariner’s crew were greeted by women public relations officers bearing armfuls of free Russian literature. The Grosvenor Mariner is loading drums of tallow and wool at Lyttelton and has already loaded at Auckland, Napier and Wellington. She is expected tn complete loading at Timaru and Dunedin before sailing for Shanghai and will probably leave Lyttelton about Friday.
