An improvement tn the Canadian dollar was the only movement of note in exchange rates last week. Other changes affecting sterling were marginal. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales are as follows: New Zealand on:— New York: Buying, 2.7982 dollars to £NZI (against 2.7983 dollars on February 18); selling, 2.7666 dollars (same). lontreal: 3.0152 dollars (3.01771; 2.9767 dollars (3.9792). • Belgium: 140.20 francs (same); 137.20 francs (137.10). Italy: 1746 lire (1747); 1700 lire (1710) Netherlands: 10.14 . guilders (10.13); 9.92 guilders (same). Austria: 72.68 schillings (72.69); 71.13 schillings (71.14). Denmark: 19.42 crowns (19.44); 19.01 crowns (19.03).

N.Z. Reserves

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 22 Net overseas assets of the New Zealand bahking system on February 13 were £663m compared with £B5 2m on February 6 and £ 52.0 m on February 14, 1982. These figures were announced today by the Reserve Bank.

Sir Charles Norwood retired yesterday from the board of directors of the Wellington Gas Company after eight years as chairman, 25 years as a director and an association with the company dating back to 1897. Tributes to his services were paid at the annual meeting of shareholders of the company. Mr H. J. Murrow has been appointed chief accountant at W. D. and H. O. Wills (New Zealand), Ltd. He has been investigating officer to the Local Government Commission and assistant accountant at the Government Printing Office.
