TROTTING Garcon d’Or-Kilkivan For Hutt Park Double

Garcon d’Or and Kilkivan could form the successful doubles combination on the second night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Hutt Park Raceway tomorrow. The order of the races has been changed to allow the double to be run on the Rongotai Handicap and the Woburn Handicap.

Garcon d’Or will be trying for his fourth successive win in the first leg. His most recent win was on the Hutt Park tfack when he created a record for a three-year-old of 3min 11 3-osec for one mile and a half.

The stablemate of Saturday’* Wellington Cup winner, Samantha, will not be Mt an easy task from 12 yards in this field. However, he has shown groat ability in the little racing he has had and with a reasonable run he should be too good for most of his rivals. Anama has paced some sound races this season and if she reproduces her best, she could be the hardest for Garcon d’Or to beat She finished well for second to her stablemate, Peel, in the two-mile Carterton Handicap on Saturday and should be better suited by the shorter distance in this race. Lord Mine and Promotion are newcomers to this class as a result of wins on the first night of the meeting. Lord Mina might be the better prospect of the pair. He paced a sound race at Addington last Wednesday and improved on that run with a solid finish to beat Kilkivan narrowly in the Masterton Handicap on Saturday. Lord Mina has shown sound form this season and he should extend his record. Promotion’s Record The Lower Hutt-trained Promotion has not paced a bad race this season and she gained her second win for the period when she outfinished Kilkivan by a nose in the Nelson Handicap on Saturday. If she receives a reasonable run, she should be hard to bead once again.

Affiliate, after being slow early, was handy over the last five furlongs of the Carterton Handicap and it was only in the last few strides that he was posed into fourth place. The shorter distance should suit him. Ra Pointer paced a fair race for third to Peel and Anama and he could again be prominent. Direct Terms and Thunderbolt disappointed on Saturday and they should be the pick of the remainder.

Second Leg Kilkivan, the winner of two races early in the season, should cap off some consistent racing—he has been placed in his last three starts —with a win in the Woburn Handicap, the second leg of the double. The Blenheim-trained gelding paced two sound races on the first night of the meeting, being beaten narrowly first by Lord Mina and then by Promotion. He might not find it easy to master a solid two miles, but the opposition in this race appears to be fairly weak and he should gain an overdue win.

Talent’s best effort -on the first night of the meeting was a third to Lord Mina and Kilkivan over 10 furlongs. Earlier in the week at Addington he had finished a useful second at the end of a solid two miles behind Messalla. Talent seems to be racing more generously now

than earlier and he should extend his record. The Duntroon-trained Smoky HaH deserves a win. She failed to show up over two miles at Addington last Wednesday, but she was placed in her two races at Hutt Farit cm Saturday. She was fourth over 10 furlongs and third over an extra two furlongs later in the night. Smokey HaH has had some strenuous racing in recent weeks, but she seems to have thrived on it and might be hard to head in this small field.

Johnny Warrior was a disappointment on Saturday, following a second at Blenheim. Earlier he had finished a useful seventh in the Nelson

Cup. The Johnny Globe four-year-old has at times shown sound form and he could easily upset calculations.

Paul Bunyan paced a pleasing race for third to Messala and Talent at Addington last week. A fourth was his beet effort from two starts on the first night ef the meeting. However, he stays well and could be the pick of the remainder.
