Benaud, helped the Commonwealth Cavaliers cricket team into a winning position at the end of the second day of Its game against the Cricket Club of India (C.C.1.).. At the close, the C.C.I. was only 84 runs ahead with four second innings wickets in hand. The tourists’ first innings total of 288 was due mainly to Benaud, who hit a fine century on a wicket that has been helping the bowlers. At the close, the C.C.I. were 142 for six. Benaud soon lost his overnight partner, B. Shepherd, but G. McKenzie gave him stout support and the pair put on 119 runs in 85 minutes. Benaud. who contributed 92 of them, hit altogether 17 four’s. When these two were out. the leg-spin bowler. Gupte, polished off the rest of the batting with three wickets in four balls. The Indians lost wickets regularly, in spite of a brave 56 by Manjrekar. The Australian left-arm spin-bowler. J. Martin, with three for 34 at the close, did moot of the damage
