VERDICT OF GUILTY

Attempted Indecent

Assault

Darcey Nelson Lt Comte, aged 67, a pensioner, was found guilty of attempted indecent assault on a girl under the age of 12 years in Bower avenue on October 16 by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday. Mr Justice Macarthur remanded the accused in custody for sentence on February 27. The verdict of the jury was given after a retirement of 25 minutes.

Mr N. W Williamson appeared for the Crown, and the accused was represented by Mr P G. S. Penlington Evidence was given for the Crown that the accused had stopped an 11-year-old girl in Bower avenue and asked her to go into some bushes with him Wh • she refused I e offered her 5s and she refused again. The girl then went into a nearby house and told a woman what the accused had said to her.
