TROTTING Peerswick Picked To Win Again At Orari

The promising colt, Peerswick, should carry on his winning way in the Invitation Stakes, a feature race at the Geraldine Trotting Club’s annual meeting at Orari today.

Peerswick made an auspicious debut at Rangiora in December when he returned a grand staying effort to win well from Rocky Star after taking 2min 11 4-ssec for his mile. Peerswick should show sharp improvement as a result of that race and, in spite of a fairly wide barrier draw, he could win again.

La Scala entered caleulations for thia race with a cashing win at tbe Ashburton trials on Tuesday. He opened up a big lead before the final two furlongs and was allowed to coast home from there. Tbe Meadow Ouef-Primo gelding has drawn No. 14 and it he escapes serious trouble in the first furlong. be should make Peerswick do his beat to hold him off.

Rocky Star fought on gamely when second to Peerswick at Rangiora and he should again be one of the hardest to beat. The Brahman colt gained a splendid win at the Ashburton trials and looks a fit youngster. Wildwood Chief and Toff Scott will represent W. R. Butt’s stables. Both have shown ability at trial*. Wildwood Chief finished a fair sixth at Rangiora at his lone race atart, while Toff Scott was always well back in the same race.

Bellajdly, a sister to Wee Mike, has shown speed and stamina at trials, but whe-

tiler she will be quite forward enough to take part in the finish from the second line io doubtful. However, she ootad manage to get into a place. Hindu Prince has shown promise at triate. He wag 8 good fifth in his heat at Ashburton on Ttieeday. Red KnW and Hal Special should do best of the others.

Hie double will be run on the Geraldine Cup and the Improvers’ Handicap. Pharoah, Haneove and Maudella form a likely trio in the first leg, while Squire, Colours Flying and Singaway may do best in the second. Fair weather ta forecast and the track is expected tn be in good order after recent rain.
