“John Bull’s Future Lies In Australia, N.Z.”

• (NJZ^-A.-Reuttr—Copyright)

LONDON. February 18. The controller of the Reciprocal Trade Federation of the United Kingdom (Mr B. M. Turner) told British and Australian businessmen today that “John Bull’s future lies in Australia and New Zetland.” “The Common Market is cracked,” he said. “It is John Bull’s job to send to Australia and New Zealand, workers to establish new industries and build up the old,” he added. New Zealand - born Mr Turner was addressing a luncheon of the Trade Federation after a five months’ tour of Australia and New Zeeland. During, his stay in Australia, Mr Turner had discussed the Common Market with the Prune Minister (Mr Menzies). Mr Turner told the luncheon that America was pouring money into Australia at a fast rate. "If America can do these things why can’t John Bull?” he asked. From Perth to the Queensland border, Mr Turner said, he had been impressed by the “dynamism, enormous enthusiasm and energy” of the people. Australian cities had made “enormous progress.” British insurance companies were responsible for new large buildings and British banks were beginning to vie with Australian banks. ’ ‘Surely this must be a

pointer to the belief in the future of Australia,” Mr Turner said. “In 10 yeans’ time some of you businessmen may be kicking yourselves to death because you didn’t establish yourselves in Australia and enjoy its prosperity.” Mr Turner’s advice was to “get out to Australia without delay and build.”
