HURUNUI LOSES TO PENINSULA

Brilliant Run Out By Cook

Hurunul was beaten by 41 runs in a representative match played at Kaituna against Banks Beninsula yesterday. Batting first. Banks Peninsula declared with the score at 343. D Marshall and K. Howarth had put on 77 runs for the first wicket when Marshall was brilliantly run out by R. Cook, who threw down the wicket from 40 yards. Only J. Carrodus of the remaining batsmen impressed, and Peninsula declared when rain stopped play for an hour. Hurunul began badly, but Cook and E. Gardner were both sound and played well. After their dismissal it was J. Withers who attacked the opposing bowlers to the etxent of a chanceless 81 not out, which included seven fours and five sixes. Of the bowlers, P. Fisher took throe wickets for 44 runs.

Scores:— Banks Peninsula 1242 for eight wickets declared (K. Howarth 47. J. Carrodus 46 not out, D. Marshall 45: R Cook three for 84. C. Crothall three for 78) beat Hurunul 301 (J. Withers 81 not out. R. Cook 35. E. Gardner 37; P. Fisher three for 44).
