Prisoner Admits Assault

(NX. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 15.

Basil Lawrence Moses, aged 24, a prisoner serving a threeyeer sentence at the New Plymouth Prison held Murray David Sheerer, a prison officer, in a Stranglehold to stop him breaking up a fight between two other inmates in the prison dining room last Monday evening Detec-tive-Sergeant G. Hogan told Mr A. W. Yortt, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today. Moses, who elected trial by jury when charged with assault on Wednesday, today pleaded guilty to the charge. He wee sentenced to one mouth’s imprisonment to be served cumulatively at the expiration of bls current three-year term. Mr Hogan told the Court Moses had requested to see the police at the prison last night. He then told officers of his change in' plea.
