Te Mahoe is the township recently established in connexion with the construction of the Matahina power project and another projected power scheme on the Rangitaiki river. The present populataion of Te Mahoe itself is about 1100, which is expected to increase to about 1300 by March. The adjacent areas of Te Teko and Waiohau have a populataion of about 1600. The probable total population of Te Mahoe and these areas at peak in 1964 could be about 3500.
