Sale Of Baby Alleged
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copvrtght) LONDON, Feb. IL A four-month-old baby girt was sold by her parents tor £3O, a Court at Blackburn Lancashire, was told, the “Daily Sketch” reported. The newspaper said the Court heard this alleged letter of agreement: "we. the undersigned, do give to Mr and Mrs Garner, of Cleveleys road, Blackburn, our daughter, Margaret Mary, to keep and bring up as their own. “We do solemnly swear that we give up all claim to her and will in no way try to communicate with her from this day. August 1, 1883. “As far as we are concerned there is no longer such a child. Also receipt for £3O sterling for same, received by me." The letter was signed by the child's parents, said the report. Before the Court were Harry and Beatrice Homes, charged with receiving £3O “in consideration of the transfer to Arthur and Mabie Garner of the care and possession of Margaret Mary Homes, with a view to the adoption of the said child.” The hearing was adjourned for a fortnight, according to the “Daily Sketch ’
