RACING Moy Runs Brilliant Mile At Riccarton

Moy ran brilliantly under a light weight in a mile gallop wide out on the course proper at Riccarton yesterday. She was the first of the northerners to arrive for the Royal meeting at Riccarton, where she will be a popular fancy for the £4OOO Queen Elizabeth Handicap. Moy will be ridden on Saturday by J. T. Anderson, who has had a most successful association with Stipulate this season.

Yesterday Mr W. M. Angus’s good performer was in the hands of A. H. Eastwood, and she had little weight up, but her mile in Imin 49sec and especially her last half in 51 4-ssec was most impressive. Triailists were galloping 45ft out on ground that was soft and cutting out after heavy rain the night before. The track was at its softest in the home straight and some horses assigned sprint tasks were finding 55sec for half a mile about as much as they could manage. Apache was the only other to record 51 4-ssec for half a mile, and he had been asked to go no further. This improving three-year-old, a winner at Ashburton, was ridden by the light-weight stable apprentice, A. Reriti. The leading jockey, R. J. Skelton, will ride Apache in the Sandringham Handicap on Saturday.

For one with only one win on record, Apache is not well in with 101 b above the minimum He will be giving up to 51b to other winners in this field, but he may be equal to the task. Pieright Fit Picrighit (Hadfield) raised hopes for a local victory in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap with a sound run to win

a six-horse trial over nine furlongs. He beat Sain! orman (Messent) by half a length, Gay Fiiou (Gould) by a length, and finished far ahead of the hacks Bodkin (Donovan) and Hullabaloo (Galey). Picright ran the distance in 2min 2 3-ssec and the last half-mile in 56sec. Hullabaloo led to near halfway, then faded to the rear. Gay Fiiou and SadJarman ran at the back for a start, but moved through to lead near the home turn. Then Picright nan forward from a trailing position and won with some authority. Obviously he has improved a lot with his latest race at Ashburton, where he was unplaced. Gay Fiiou seldom does anything spectacular or even encouraging on the tracks, so he will stay in favour for the big race on Saturday. Anyone expecting something spectacular from Great Sensation would have been disaippointed. With R. B. Taggart up, he was let off with half a mile in 55 4-ssec, but he may do something more strenuous as a final trial tomorrow. Sound Run Windvale Lad, ridden by his race rider, N. Eastwood, ran a mile in Imin 52 2-ssec and the last half very creditably in Msec. He worked late in the morning on a wellmarked track. Windvale Lad was bothered by a tendon injury for a time after his fifth in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap on the last day of the Wellington Cup meeting. He struck trouble when Sybeau was being brought to the outside in an effort to get a run, and his placing was creditable. McCool (Beck) showed some reluctance to gallop

away, but when he did get moving, he did so ait speed and ran his mile in Irnin 47 2-ssec. He was eased after dashing over the first halfmile in 51 4-ssec. McCool is assured of a start bn the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap, but is one of the reserves tor the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, and is the second to re-enter the field. He may have to run in the shorter race, which will not suit him as well as a mile and a half. Studio (Reggett) ran nine furlongs in 2mdn 5 4-ssec. After three furlongs, run in 40 2-seec, he was joined y Derailment (C. McDonald), but they did not continue at any speed after getting to the half-mile. Studio an bis five furlongs along the back and around to the halfmile in Imin 6 4-ssec. Dashing Sprint Of the lesser lights none impressed more than Picca Leigh. This three-year-old filly beat her contemporary Seaend (Miss Keirrt by a length over six furtongs in Irnin 20 4-ssec, running the final four in 54 2-ssec. Picca Leigh was ridden by her race rider, J. Messent. Other gallops:— Mile.—Moorook a ( Hadfield) shading Begame (Low) and clear of Purr Along (Beck) and Ginger Mac (Daly) Imin 54 l-ssec; Vitamise (N. Eastwood) three lengths clear of Last Mate (Gould) Imin 50sec, last half. 54 2-ssec.

Seven Furlongs. Mhor (Beck) four lengths to Pleasant Ways (Eden) Imin 33 4-ssec, last half 55 4-ssec; Share (Eastwood) half a length to Town Talk (Low’, both easing up, Imin 35 4-ssec.

Six Furlongs.—Standout (Wildermoth) length to Hushaway (Beck) Imin 24 4-ssec, last half 56 4-ssec; High Score (Williams) and Marlborough (Beck) Imin 23 2-ssec, last half, 55 4-ssec; Candida (Messent) Imin 23 l-ssec; Fonteroy (Reggett) length and a half to On Account (Donovan) Imin 22 4-ssec.

Half-mile. Misjudge (Edens) half length to Omasong (Reriti) length and a half to Pigling Bland (Beck) 52 3-ssec; Manana (Wildermoth) 54sec; Zinder (Wildermoth) 54 3-ssec; Lady Merling (Wildermoth) three lengths Jaykay (E. Skelton) half length to Last Count (A. Eastwood) 54sec; Magician (Reggett) 54 3-ssec; Safe Harbour (Hadfield) two lengths Paua (N. Eastwood) 55 2-ssec; Riboflavin (Gould) well clear Vesture (C. McDonald) 55 4-ssec; Natavia (A. Eastwood) length to Sweet SO'leria (Wildermoth) 53sec; Noble Rank (Donovan) and General Gilbert (Swanson) 54 3-ssec; Gabelle (Reggett) 52 3-ssec; Foxy Boy (C. T. Wilson) and Bar Kochba (R. Thompson) 53 3-ssec.; Boundless (C. McDonald) and Tuborg (M. Skelton 55sec; Windvale Lass (N. Eastwood) 53 2-ssec. Three Furlongs.—Glentarkin (Low) 39 l-ssec.
