February 10. D. Vesco, of California, riding a Japanese Yamaha, today became the first American to win the motor-cycle Grand Prix of the United States in the third running of the race at the Daytona international speedway. Vesco, riding as a member of the Yamaha factory team, was timed in ihr 23min 13sec for the 200 kilometres (’25 miles’—a - ' average speed of 89.405 miles an hour round the 3.1-mile course. H. Anderson, of New Zealand, who hurt his hand in a fall during Saturday’s racing, did not race today.
