Petrol On Harbour
Safety precautions were ordered by the Lyttelton Harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) at the port on Sunday about 11 am. when petrol from the tanker Vesta escaped into the tortx>ur Two units of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade stood by. one near the tanker and the other near the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club's shed and the fishermens wharf.
Movements of pleasure launches were briefly res:r.ered and watchmen were stationed in the area to prevent persons smoking or catting matches away. Foam was played on the petrol-covered water, near the Vesta and Lyttelton Harbour Board staff sank the petrol with detergents.
