Townley To Drive Waitaki Hanover

Trie prominent South Island trainer-reinsman, D. J. Townley, will drive the Auckland - owned Waitaki Hanover for the remainder of the 1963 Inter-Dominion trotting championship at WayviMe. Townley, who is here to drive the three-year-old. Tactile, in the Pacers’ Derby next Saturday, was snapped up to dirive Waitaki Hanover after South Australian Trotting Club stewards outed his trainer-driver, veteran E. Kennerley, after the second qualifying heat, won by Dusty Miller, on Saturday night Waitaki Hanover is drawn in the third heat against the Sydney pacer, Grogan, which missed the opening series because of an attack of colic. At Wayville. Grogan was backed for more than £20,000 for the final, so evidently the setback is not considered likely to affect his chance of qualifying in the two heats remaining. No betting risks are being taken with waitaki Hanover as he represents a huge liability for pre-post bookmakers, but should he fail to gain points on Wednesday his stocks will slump appreciably. Withdrawn The New South Wales-owned pacer Dela Pride, had a bleeding attack in the first heat and has been withdrawn from all enfakements. The local pacer Veebeeah, was buffeted in the fall and he. too, la unlikely to run in the remainder of the heats. The clash of Cardigan Bay

and Idle Raider on Wednesday night is arousing tremendous interest, and opinions are fairly evenly divided on the outcome. Bookmakers rate the event as a two-horse race in spite of the presence of Smokey Eric, Little Doctor, Kols Idol and Kiwi Dillon in the field, and have the New South Wales horse favourite, but only a fraction of a point shorter than Cardigan Bay, which is Quoted at even money.
