Further Wins In Australia

BRISBANE. Feb. 11. The New Zealand Universities' lawn tennis tesm gained another victory today when it defeated the Queensland junior representatives by 19 sets to 18. The contest wss played in very hot conditions. Miss C. Drummond, playing her first match after 10 days of illness, was too strong for Miss M. Schacht, the top junior girl. Miss Drummond's ground shots kept her opponent away from the net and Miss Schacht rarely held the initiative.

The top New Zealand men. J. B. Souter and' R. N. Hawkes, were too good for their opposites. but B. D. Young and L. J. Walpole lost their singles. Results were (N.Z. names first):—

Men’s Singles-—J- B. Souter beat R. White, 8-4, 6-3; R. N. Hawkes beat J. Decker, 8-1, 6-4; B. D. Young lost to N. Zellnski. 6- 1-6. 3-6; L. J. Walpole lost to T. Richards, 8-8, 2-6. Women’s Singles.—Miss C. Drummond beat Miss M. Schacht. 5-7, 6-1, 6-4: Miss S. Sutton lost to Miss M. Wicks. 7- 3-6, 4-6; Miss R. Potter beat Miss B. Thomas, 6-3, 6-0; Miss A. Mitchell beat Miss P. Rosso. 6-2. 6-3.

Men’s Doubles.—Souter and Hawkes beat White and Zelinski. 5-7, 6-3. 8-6; Young and Walpole lost to Decker and Richards, 7-5. 4-6, 1-6. Women’s Doubles. Misses Drummond and Sutton lost to Misses Schacht and Wicks, 5-7, 3-6; Misses Potter and Mitchell beat Misses Thomas and Rosso, 8-4, 6-3.

Mixed Doubles.—Souter and Miss Drummond lost to Decker and Miss Schacht, 2-8, 6-8; Hawkes and Miss Sutton lost to White and Miss Wicks, 6-8, 4-6; Young and Miss Potter lost to Zellnski and Miss Thomas. 4-6, 4-6; Walpole and Miss Mitchell beat Richards and Miss Rosso. 8-6, 6-4.
