Shown How To Bowl

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LAUNCESTON (Tasmania), Feb. 4 A German Immigrant, Mr Heinz Volner, aged 34, had his first game of cricket in a social match yesterday—and distinguished himself by getting a hat-trick. Mr Volner, a barman, emigrated to Tasmania from a northern suburb of West Berlin in 1951 and played cricket yesterday only because the hotel for which he works was unable to raise a full team. Before the match his Australian wife showed him how to bowl. He got wickets with his fourth, fifth and sixth balls of his second over, finishing with three for 14. When he batted he made four runs—“ That was easy,’’ He said, “because the Yanks showed me how to hit a ball when I was a prisoner of war in Berlin in 1946."
