APPOINTMENT OF VICAR

Rev. J. Thomas For Remuera

The vicar of St. Peter’s Church. Upper Riccarton (the Rev. J. Thomas), has been appointed vicar of St. Mark’s Church. Remuera, by the Bishop of Auckland (the Rt. Rev E. A. Gowing). Mr Thomas, a former Cambridge Rugby Blue, will succeed the Ven A. E. Prebble,

Archdeacon of Auckland, who will leave New Zealand soon for England. Born in Wales. Mr Thomas is a master of arts of. Cambridge University and a bachelor of arts of St. David's College. Lampeter, Wales. He was ordained a deacon in 1942, and a priest a year later. He came to New Zealand in 1955 and was appointed vicar of Kensington-Otipua. T.maru, where he remained until his appointment to St. Peter’s in 1960. He succeeded the Ven. H. G. Norris, who was appointed vicar of Ashburton. Mr Thomas is married, with four children. He is a keen rower, and was a coach while at Timaru.
