Renovations To Plane

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 11.

The general manager of Tourist Air Travel, Captain F. Ladd, piloted a newlypainted Grumman Widgeon out of Mechanics Bay this afternoon.

On Wednesday the amphibian will carry the Duke of Edinburgh from Nelson to the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa.

For several days the Widgeon has been in Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd.’s engineering workshop undergoing a complete retrim. The seats have been upholstered in blue and toe aircraft ’as been painted a colour scheme of maroon and white inside and out. Fitted with the Duke’s personal “scrambler” type radio, the Widgeon is flying the Royal pennant. Captain Ladd said he hoped the Duke would ask to fly the aircraft

Tomorrow night Captain Ladd will fly from Nelson to Wellington where he will be invested with the M.B.E. by the Queen.
