Britain would be accepted into the European Common Market when she reached toe point that she could accept toe conditions of the Common Market, the French Ambassador to toe United States (Mr Herve Alphand) said last night He also said that France had no nuclear aspirations.

“We wont become a major nuclear power because we

won’t need to," he told a press conference. Mr Alphand arid: “The French Government says there is still a groat gap between toe designs of Great Britain and the conditions of toe Common Market, particularly in toe field of agriculture. Our hope is that one day Great Britain will under, stand and will accept the principles of the Common Market”

Referring to the failure of the negotiations in Brussels, Mr Alphand said: “The European community has not changed fundamentally. It is to our common interests not to exaggerate differences of opinion. “Our principle is to make a strong Atlantic alliance and to continue to work toward European unity. If. the Communists misunderstand, they will soon find out’’
