British - designed disc brakes are being accepted by
manufacturers all over the world, and they have now appeared on a new DKW. In this vehicle the discs are mounted inboard on the front drive shafts (the car is front wheel drive), which enables larger discs than normal to be used and also helps in keeping down unsprung weight. British disc brakes are now being made under licence in West Germany.
4* Sweden is the only European country, apart from Britain, where motorists drive on the left of the road, but a bill is to be introduced in the Swedish Legislature to bring in driving on the right. It is expected the change will be made over a period of several years to avoid the confusion that would result from a sudden change.
* * * The managing director of Ford of England (Mir A. Barke) has said the company is already embarrassed
by the orders for Lotus Cortinas which have come in from many overseas markets. The car's top speed has been given as 110 to 115 miles an hour, and intermediate speeds are 45 m.ph. in first, 69 mp.h. in second, and 92 m.pih. in third.
