Julius Katchen To Play Here

The recently-formed Christchurch Civic Orchestra will have its first visiting international soloist this year. The distinguished American pianist, Julius Katchen, will appear with the orchestra in a concert at the Civic Theatre on the afternoon of Sunday, May 19. The secretary of the Civic Orchestra Foundation, Mr A. W. Mann, said that final details of the programme had not yet been arranged, but Mr Katchen would play

Rachmaninov’s Piano concerto No. 2 in C minor or Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 in C minor. He Would possibly play both works. The orchestra, conducted by Professor John Ritchie, gave its inaugural concert ini November last year. 1
