ROTORUA TODAY

My Contact Picked

•The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, February 7. From a long list of possibilities, My Contact, Shakespeare and Persian Star might be the best selections for the £3OOO Rotorua City Cup tomorrow. If success comes the way of My Contact, the top-weight, it will be a reward for consistent trying during a long season.

The last time My Contact won was over a middle distance at Cambridge on November 10. Meanwhile he has had nine starts for a second, two thirds and two fourths. His second placing was particularly meritorious, behind a stablemate, Beauzami, in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxtag Day.

Shakespearee will be making his first try this season at a middle-distance—the course is 10 furlongs and 180 yards. He has been impressive in his training at Takanini.

My Contact and Persian Star tackled the big races during the Wellington summer meeting. Another in the Rotorua Cup is Sy beau. None of the three looked likely to win at Trentham but all performed with a fair amount of credit. A sudden change to soft ground would suit Sybeau and My Contact, which showed fine form during the winter and early spring months of last year. However, the prospect of the going coming their way has seemed pretty remote. The Rotorua City Cup will be the big event at the Rotorua Racing Club’s summer meeting. In the second leg. the Britannia Handicap, six furlongs, Terrorist, Khadija and Pipe Dream are notable.
