Early West Irian Take-Over?
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, February 7. The United Nations has agreed on an “informal” take-over of West New Guinea by Indonesia before next May, the Foreign Minister (Dr. Subandrio) said in Djakarta today.
He was speaking to reporters after a one-and-e-half
hour meeting with a topranking United Nations official Mr G R Naresimhsn, of India. Dr. Subandrio aid a date for thia de facto transfer of power in the former Dutch territory had been set. According to the Indon-esian-Netherlands New York agreement of het August, signed with the approval of the United Nettone, Indonesia is to acquire West New Guinea formally after next May 1. UJt Meria AtaMriattM The United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (LJiTEA) is at present administering the territory in the seven-mooth interim period between the Dutch withdrawal and the formal Indonesian take-over.
