RECORD IN SIGHT

Dairy Sales In Sth. America (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. New Zealand’s dairy trade with the Caribbean, Central and South American area, which has expanded steadily in recent years, would touch record heights this season, the Dairy Board forecast in a statement today. The board gave details of trade in announcing that its deputy-chairman (Mr R. A. Candy) and technical director (Mr T. P. J. Twomey) are leaving today to visit Caribbean and other markets. In the four years, 1957-58 to 1961-62, exports of all New Zealand dairy products to the Caribbean, Central, and South American region rose from 8800 tons to a record annual rate of 15,000 tons. The increases were mainly in milk powders, including whole milk powder, and in milk fat or butterfat, which is used in the area for reconstituted milk. This season, at January 31, with only eight months’ sales, approximately 14,000 tons of produce has been sold to Caribbean and Latin American areas, the statement said. This figure compared with the 1961-62 sales shows a very satisfactory rate of increase in sales of butter, cheese, milk fat, and milk powders.

Restriction on Dogs.— Notices prohibiting dogs not on a leash will be erected in the Sprihgston Domain, the Springston South Domain Board decided at a meeting yesterday.
