DICKENS’S LETTERS

Publication Plans

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6.

An Aucklander has returned to New Zealand after spending part of his year’s sabbatical leave as a member of the editorial committee for the complete edition of the letters of Charles Dickens. He is Professor J. C. Reid, associate professor of English at Auckland University. He said the edition would probably entail the publication of 16 volumes, spread over about 20 years. Professor Reid found a number of unpublished letters in New Zealand, including some in the Auckland Public Library and others in private hands, and photostat copies of them were sent to England. Professor Reid said he had just completed a book on Thomas Hood, the poet and humorist. Exact information is the death of conversation.—anon.
