PIANOFORTE TEACHERS

Appointment In Schools Sought

The Federation of Music Teachers will send a deputation to the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) and the Director of Education (Mr A. E. Campbell) asking them to consider the appointment of pianoforte teachers in primary and secondary schools.

This move was agreed on by delegates attending the annual Dominion conference of the federation in Christchurch.

The delegates did not agree on a motion to support the establishment at a national conservatorium of music. Instead, they accepted an amended motion that the Dominion executive discuss the matter with Mr Tennent.

Representative selected to the federation’s Dominion board of directors were: Mr P. Towsey and Mr H. Shirley (Auckland); Mr H. Cook <Hamilton); Miss M. Atkinson (Palmerston North): Mr H. Temple-White, Mr T. J. Young, Mr J. W. Miller and Professor F. Page (Wellington); Mr L. Barnes (Nelson); Miss B Pollard (Christchurch); Miss M. Martin and Mr A Maidrum (Dunadfa).
