£100 FOR R.S.A. WELFARE

Woolston Effort “Magnificent” Advice of a grant of £lOO for the benevolent purposes of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association was received from the Woolston suburban committee at the association’s executive meeting last evening. The president (Mr A. Farrar) said the grant was a magnificent effort on the part of the committee. A grant of £6OO was made by the committee in December, and in the previous year one of £7OO was made for the fund. Educational assistance amounting to £6lO has been granted during the year by the association to 30 children of deceased former servicemen.

The secretary (Mr F. Barron) reported that he had conducted 1481 personal interviews during the year. Of these, 535 concerned war disability pensions, war veterans' allowances, and social security benefits. The afftirs of the association and personal problems of returned servicemen and their dependents accounted for 364 interviews, and attendance at funerals and arrangements for funerals another Mr P. H. Mitchell and Mr J. C. White were nominated for election of Dominion president and vice-president respectively to be held at the annual conference in Wellington on June 18.
