ADDINGTON MARKET All Store Sheep Sell Soundly

There was another very good sale for store sheep at Addington market yesterday. The level of values for lambs was very close to late good rates. A very good selection of fine wool twotooth ewes enjoyed a strong sale. Values appeared to improve by Is to 2s, even taking into account the better quality of the selection. Older ewes, which were forward in slightly larger numbers, had another good sale at rates fully comparable with those ruling last week.

The over-all entry wa« of similar size to last week with 11,583 head yarded compared with 11,311. The selection included 7267 lambs (8588 last week), 873 two-tooth ewes (108), 3057 older ewes (2351). and 388 wethers (184). STOM LAMBS There was some variation in opinion among those who closely follow the lamb sale about the level of values. In some cases it was thought that the top lambs were a little dearer and in others that they were a little cheaper, and there was a similar variation in opinion about the trend of the market for medium and lighter lambs, but overall It could be said that values were very close to late good rates with the medium and lighter lambs relatively easy selling and the market altogether very satisfactory. The pick of the Romney wether lambs realised from 40s to 465, With good at 35s to 395, average at 30s to 345, and others at 23a to 28s. In the fine wool section the best of the wether lambs brought from 37s to 395, average to good made from 31s to 355, and others sold at 35s to 28s. Down cross sold mainly from 30s to 40s. The top price for Romney wether lambs was 46s which was paid to the estate R. O. Bradley (Chatteris Bay), who sold 104 at 40s to the top price. W. J. H. Coop (Kaituna) also realised 43s for 80, and A. Hunter (Otahuna) had sales at up to 40s 6d. The Glens of Tekoa (Balmoral) headed the fine wool wether lamb section with the tops of a big line of 761 halfbreds reaching 395. Sales at 38s were made by D. W. and R. D. Ensor (Lammermoor) for 91, and A. S. Westland (Glenmuick) for the tops of 461. Down cross lambs realised to 40s for 56 from the estate E. W. Gray (Teddington) and for 87 from the Bradley Estate. The bulk of the quotable ewe lambs were fine wools and the best of these made from 45s to 48s 6d, with average at 33s to 36s and others at Ba to 295. One offering of Romney ewe lambs brought to 465. T. H. Croft (Omlhl) headed the ewe lamb section with 88 Corriedales selling from 48s 6d. E. D. Crampton (Wyndale) had another 70 Corriedales at 46s 6d. and his line of 161 sold from 45s 6d. The best sale of Romney ewe lambs was made by Mrs A. D. Hamilton (Happy valley) who realised 46s for 76. Best mixed sex lambs ranged from 41s to 455, with good at 37s to 38s 6d and others at down to 275. H. Byrch (Motunau) had three-quarterbred mixed sex lambs which sold up to 455. TWO-TOOTH IWM There was a remarkably good sale for two-tooth ewes. The offering included a mainly good quality selection of well woolled and well grown sheep and even taking Into account the quality of the offering the market probably appreciated by about 2s a head. A sizeable gallery followed the sale. Several sales were made at better than 60s and the best of the offering, which was made up entirely of fine wool sheep, ranged from 60s to 89s, with good at 50s to 58s and others at 32s to 435. T. H. Burgin (Crosby) with an attractive offering of Corriedales topped the section with 73 at 69s and his line of 189 sold from 645. N. E. Mclntosh (Rotherham) was paid 65s for 90 halfbreds and R. F. For these there was a very sound inquiry with values very comparable to the rates of last week. The best of the older ewes sold to 52s for five-year-olds, with good four-year-olds at 40s to 465, good four and five-year-olds 38s to 435, average to good older ewes 35s to 40s, and older ewes 29s to 345, with few sales under the 30s mark. A good line of 150 well woolled five-year-old halfbred ewes from G. Mathias (Dairy) sold for the good price of 52s and four-year-old halfbreds numbering 225 from W. O. B. Knox (Kahutara) made from 45s 6d to 465. Four-tooth Corriedales from F. V. Stack (Rakaia) were bought for 54s and the estate of Mrs E. ActonAdams (Motunau) realised to 48s for six-tooths.
