CANADA GOOSE SHOOTING
Special Season Of Six Weeks A special season for shooting Canada geese on Lake Ellesmere and in a limited area round it will be held from Saturday to March 10. Shooting will be permitted 24 hours a day and there will be no bag limit. A licence for the special season will cost 7s 6d. The secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr E. J. C. Hay) said yesterday that the season had been introduced as a measure to decrease damage to crops and pastures caused by the geese at this time of the year. The area for shooting was decided after discussion between the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society and the Wildlife branch of the Department of Internal Affairs. The area for shooting is bounded by a line from a point on the sea coast in line with the middle of Beach road, near Poranui. and proceeding along the middle lines of that road and the Christchurch-Akaroa highway to a point in line with the middle of Duck Pond road at Motukarara; thence along the middle of that road to a point in line with the middle of Ridge road; thence along the middle lines of Ridge, Neill's, Davidson's and Pannett’s roads to the right bank of the Selwyn river at Coe's ford; thence along that river bank to the middle of the Leeston - Christchurch road; thence along the middle lines of that road, High street, Fereday’s and Waby*s roads to the middle of North Rakria road; thence along the middle of that road and iits production to the sea coast; thence along the sea coast to the point ot commencement.
