MEMORIAL GATES

Second U.S. Marines (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. The Government will grant an undisclosed sum for the erection of memorial gates at McKay’s Crossing, the site of the war-time camp of the U.S. 2nd Marine Division, it was announced today. McKay's Crossing is about 30 miles north of Wellington. The memorial will be unveiled on February 9 when 70 former Marines, wives and widows, will be in New Zealand to celebrate the landing here of the division. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today that the Government was glad to be associated with the project It would be New Zealand’s tribute to the memory of the gallant men stationed in New Zealand who had been killed during the war in the °acific.
