RACING TOP COLT BRINGS 3000 GNS

Australians Buy Freely At Yearling Sales (New Zealand Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, January 23. Values were almost on a par with last year for the opening day of the thirty-seventh annual National Yearling Sales at Trentham today. Altogether, 127 lots were sold for 92,570 gns at an average of 728 gns. On the first day last year, 119 lots sold for 90,445 gns, an average of 760 gns. The Australians again provided the strength of the market, contributing substantially more than half the aggregate turnover.

They bought 57 lots for 51,845 gns (average 9091 gns). On the first day last year they took 55 lots for 47,995 gns (average 872 f gns). The top price was SOOOgns, ■wtach the Randwick trainer, R. C. Roden, gav* ** * brown colt by Gabador out of the champion sprinter. Yahabeebe. Yahabeebe won 14 races and £20,727 In stakes. Her initial tribute at the stud was a handsome and welldeveloped brown colt showing considerable quality. It was offered on account of Mr L J. Fisher, of Auckland. Six other lots realised 2000cns or more. Top among these was 2fioogns. which the Randwick trainer, T. J. Smith, gave for a brown colt by Summertime from the Foxbridge mare. Ladyship, offered by Mr N. Thirty-two other lots realised four-figure prices. This was almost 25 per cent of the lots sold, so the quota was well up to the average American Buying Four lots were sold to Americans. Mr Humphrey Finney, who is head of the Fasig-Tipton Agency in New York, gave llOOgns for a colt by Fair’s Fair from Shirin, offered by Mrs R. P. Gudsell. if Tirau. and 700gns for an attractive Summertime—Monshar filly offered by Mr C. N. Newman, of Manurewa. Mi E. Williams, a Californian. brought two cheap lots. Mr H C. Akhil. from Fiji, who has had his horses trained in Sydney and who is retting up his own racing establishment there, gave IMOgns for a strong colt by High Rank from Screenings, bred at the Sevenoaks Stud in Marlborough. The colt was one of the first crop of his sire and was an impressive individual. Mr Akhil also gave lOOOgns for a stylish chestnut colt by Arragon from Lady Grande, bred at the Windsor Park Stud. Hamilton. In addition to the toppriced colt. R. Roden gave 1500gns for a Marco Polo II —Silver Gold colt from Trelawney Stud. The colt, a first foal is closely related to the Melbourne Cup winner.
