Electra Kills Seagulls
(NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. Two seagulls failed to return to base yesterday morning after colliding with a T.E.A.L. Electra at Rongotai. The aircraft was about to touch down when the birds were struck by a wing. The impact dented the metal skin on the wing’s leading edge and made a twoinch split which needed temporary repair before the Electra took off again. T.E.A.L. officials who went to the end of the runway to investigate found the bodies of the birds. “We will have to consider a bird scarer for these early flights," said an official. It was the first time he knew of that a bird had damaged an Electra at Rongotai. On the present timetable T.E.A.L. Electras land at 6.30 a.m. on Saturdays and take off again at 8 a.m.
