The Congo

Sir,—Mr R. S. ' Wheeler, usually humanitarian and

positive in his comments, chooses to hang some antiUnited Nations views on the Congo mess. To pretend that the distorted image ot the United Nations as seen in either Korea or the Congo is what the United Nations was meant to be is quije wrong. To say that those who founded the United Nations are out to fool the people of the world is the kind of insult I hardly expected from Mr Wheeler. Does he believe this of Peter Fraser, to name just one of the founders? What does Mr Wheeler believe in? What would he put in place of the United Nations as a world organisation? As programme organiser for the Christchurch branch ot the United Nations Association I offer Mr Wheeler our platform to expound his thesis at greater length.—

Yours, etc, H. G. KILPATRICK. January 10. 1963.
