Waiting For Results Two pairs of Mtorois which were moved to more spacious grounds at Mountsbruce, Masterton, about October had so far shown no signs of breeding, a spokesman for the Wildlife Division of the Department of Internal Affairs said yesterday. So little was known about the birds, the first to be reared in captivity, that it was impossible to say if they had settled properly in their new surroundings or if they had reached breeding maturity.— (PJL)

Driving Hazards Motorists in Canterbury who drive their cars with transistor radios hung from the rear vision mirror, or travel with large mascots dangling in the rear window, are liable to be stopped by officers of the Transport Department if they are detected. The department considers' anything in a vehicle which obstructs the driver’s vision or is likely to distract other motorists as a hazard. “There are very few motorists who offend in this respect, but we would have no hesitation in stopping them and asking that they remove them,” said the chief traffic officer (Mr E. Wilson) yesterday. Blowhole In Glacier An inspection of the Kitchener stream on Thursday revealed the cause of the flood damage to the Hermi-tage-Ball Hut road, which was closed on Sunday after the approaches to Blue stream bridge had been washed away. The damage] was caused by the water coming from a blowhole from the Tasman glacier near the terminal moraine. The water formed a channel to the west, and it scoured out the road in one or two places, including the approaches to the bridge. The inspection was made by Mr E. R. L. O’Toole, acting resident engineer for the Ministry of Works in Mid and South Canterbury.

Icy Welcome Twenty-five Rugby-playing law students from Argentina, who arrived in London by ship yesterday, heard when they landed that there would be no week-end fixtures for them, and chances of getting games next week were remote. The South Americans have paid over £6OO each to go to Britain to play nine games in the next four weeks. But none of the grounds they are due to play on is yet free of snow and ice. Only areas of England fit for play at the moment are Cornwall and South Devon. Organisers are now trying to get a game for the visitors at Penzance.

Neptune’s Flight The United States Navy Neptune. City of Auckland, which had to turn back after leaving Invercargill tor the Antarctic on Tuesday, returned to Invercargill last night and should take off this morning. An R4D Rescuemaster arrived at 3.15 p.m. with the 16 jato bottles required for the Neptune and returned to Christchurch ait 4 p.m. Six jato bottles were used in the take-off to enable the crew to gain experience. Fuel for the Neptune was railed from Chrietchurcb.—(P-AJ Overcome Salvatore Maucino, aged 46, who won 184,416,000 lire (about £100,000) on the football pools last Sunday, has been confined to bed ever since.
