“The article in Thursday’s issue of ‘The Press' on ‘Messing about in Boats in England’ was interesting but misleading if applied to conditions at Lyttelton harbour, unless sailing enthusiasts as described, were under the control of an organised yacht club. "Sailing is easy to learn according to some enthusiasts but experience and conditions are learnt the hard way. The only insurance is a life jacket. “The photograph accompanying the article shows ideal sailing conditions but it had nothing on the X class yacht that was sailing from the new breakwater to Diamond Harbour last Saturday afternoon. The conditions were hectic with a strong easterly against the last of the ebb. It still shows the X class can meet conditions prevailing. Good luck for its future.” PERA JACK.
